iTunes Review

Boston jam rock trio State Radio's third studio long-player opens with “Mansin Humanity,” a grunge marinated indie-rocker saturated in rich guitar distortion that sounds like the band barged Crazy Horse’s rehearsal space and borrowed their gear. The following “Calling All Crows” changes the tone drastically with the kind of college friendly Rasta jam with lyrics that call for a peaceful revolution. “Doctor Ron the Actor” moves faster with the swift strumming of ska-tinged guitars and a tight horn section. “Arsenic & Clover” gets a bit more raucous with a hard driving chorus and a wonderfully fuzzy bass solo from Chuck Fay that leaves you wanting to hear more if only because it’s inside of the harder numbers where State Radio sound in their element. “Held Up By The Wires” is a perfect example — you can hear hints of In Utero era Nirvana seeping from the crunchy, grinding guitars and former Dispatch member Chad Urmston’s voice sometimes segueing into a Kurt Cobainesque drawl.

Another Top Notch Release by SR!

Great Vibe on the new album, a little Ska/Reggae mix with a tish of Irish Punk. Chetro and the boys have a winner here and a great offering with 41 songs with two full albums of Acoustic live performances including Dispatch favorites along with story telling.

Tony the Tiger said it best

This is a perfect mix of songs. "Let it go" could be better than "Us against the crown" album. With 41 tracks for the price is what really make it great.

Amazing

Wow. I could not ask for a better surprise on A Tuesday morning. The cd is amazing. 41 songs! Unreal!!!

Formed: 2002 in Cambridge, MA

Genre: Alternative

Years Active: '00s

The mixture of indie rock song structures, socially conscious lyrics, and roots reggae rhythms has long been a staple in the jam band world, and State Radio deliver on all counts. A Boston-based trio led by singer and primary songwriter Chad Urmston, formerly of Vermont jamsters Dispatch, State Radio largely manage to avoid the usual post-Phish clichés, injecting a punk-influenced sound and politically charged lyrical viewpoint while staying true to the tenets of their chosen style. The results often...
